This program for Palm computers contains several features that support healthcare practitioners in the diagnosis and treatment of certain clotting disorders.

Pre-test probability calculators are provided for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE). Both prompt the user to indicate the presense or absense of various patient conditions. When input is complete, the pre-test probability of the corresponding condition is calculated and displayed.

The DVT peri-operative prophylaxis guide prompts the user to select patient conditions and characteristics. When input is complete, the probability of DVT is calculated and displayed along with corresponding recommendations for prophylactic treatment.

The dosage calculator computes the dosage of innohep* (a low molecular weight heparin) required for the following indications:

  • Deep Vein Thrombosis
  • Hip Replacement - pre-operative start
  • Hip Replacement - post-operative start
  • Knee Replacement
  • General Surgery
  • Pulmonary Embolus

To calculate a dosage, select the indication, enter the patient weight and tap the "Calculate" button. When the required dosage appears, select a format (vial or syringe) and tap on "Calculate" again. The indication, weight, dosage and injection volume are displayed.
